Membership Benefits

Members of APS enjoy the privileges of being a part of the only national criminal
justice honor society, and gain valuable leadership experiences through active
participation in their chapter. Upon acceptance into APS, members receive the following:

  1. Membership certificate and certificate holder
  2. Membership ID card
  3. Alpha Phi Sigma pin
Members in good standing also are eligible for scholarships and awards, which are available
each year. Members also receive copies of The Docket, the official newsletter of
Alpha Phi Sigma. The Docket provides timely information to its members about the annual
conference, awards and grants, news from chapters across the country, and important contact information.
For commencement, Alpha Phi Sigma members in good standing are eligible to wear honor regalia:
cord, medallion, stole, recognizing their achievements in the areas of academic excellence,
leadership, service, and unity.

Membership Requirements

Alpha Phi Sigma recognizes academic excellence by undergraduates as well as graduate students
of criminal justice. To become a member, the student must have completed one-third of their
total hours required for graduation at his/her institution. The student must be recommended by
the chapter advisor.
  1. Undergraduate students must maintain a minimum of 3.2 overall GPA on a 4.0 scale,
    and in criminal justice courses. The student must rank in the top 35% of their classes and have
    completed a minimum of four courses within the criminal justice curriculum.
  2. Graduate students are required to maintain a minimum of a 3.4 GPA in both criminal
    justice courses and overall courses, on a 4.0 scale. Students must have completed a minimum of four
    courses within the criminal justice curriculum.
  3. Law students enrolled in law school, having completed one academic year, with a GPA of
    2.5 or higher, on a 4.0 scale.

    4. National Fees & Dues

    The National membership initiation fee for the regular and honorary membership shall be $40.00.
    This shall entitle each new member to a pin, wallet membership card, and membership certificate.
    Each regular member shall receive The Docket .
